There are many companies out there that offer credit repair for a fee. One lender that I’ve used in the past has a credit repair service that charges to fix people’s credit scores. The fee they charge is $50 per item, per credit report. With there being three main credit bureaus, if one late payment is listed with all three credit agencies, you would pay $150 just for that one item!
Bad credit is costly. You see this with the interest rates you have to pay, the late fees you are charged, and the bank fees you are charged when you miss or are late with a payment. Paying someone to fix your bad credit, is just another way you can see that having bad credit, is costly.
Option 2: Wait it Out
Derogatory marks on credit reports have a shelf life. Unfortunately they are not short shelf lives. Bad credit marks stay on your report for up to 7 years – even if you pay off a balance that we reported as late.
You can improve your credit by waiting the 7 years for each bad credit mark to drop off and eventually your credit scores will increase. However that means you have 7 years to wait before you can purchase that new home.
